Get Rich Fast

Have you ever seen an ad or post that over-promises? Have you ever signed up for a subscription with hopes and dreams that never come to fruition?

Everyday we are faced with decisions. Good versus bad. Immediate versus long-term. We are driven by emotion and desire. We want a quick solution to our problems.

It is time to change your frame. Instead of looking for a quick fix, I want you to look for an low maintenance one. How do I get to my goal with little to no decision making or conscious decision on my part? How do I accomplish my goals without even focusing on them?

I have three challenges that can help you accomplish anything you desire (including getting rich fast). Self love. Self knowledge. Repetition.

Challenge #1

Self Love. STOP beating yourself up for not having the self-discipline to do 'x' (go to the gym, eat that food, etc..) Be your own best friend.

I would guess that 25% of my clients inadvertently apologize for the current state of their body (mostly women). They talk about how they haven't been able to exercise or that they've gained weight. They apologize for not having received a pedicure or shaved their legs.

I understand. Receiving massage is a vulnerable experience where one person is going to be looking and paying attention to your body. Everyday we are bombarded with media about how we are "less than." We are our own worst critic.

Can we look past this? I want you to love your body, not apologize for it. In turn, you can trust that my mission is pain relief and wellness, not judgement.

Challenge #2

Self Knowledge. Start with the end in mind. Who is the ideal you?

This is where the fun comes in. It can be a game. You are a puzzle that only you can figure out. Pay attention to your moods and your behaviors. When are you the happiest? When are you most likely to do something makes you feel proud?

Let me provide an example. My ideal self gets up early. My real self likes to sleep the day away. I've had my whole life to learn about myself and rig the game to make it easy to wake up early. These are some strategies that help me get up early.

I get paid for it.

I schedule my shifts to start as early as possible (within reason). I book things with clients starting at 7 am and it gets me in the habit of getting my rear into to gear early. Work has a huge influence on our habits and who we are as people.

My environment promotes it.

My room has a lot of natural light. I embrace the sun as a way to wake up, and I'm happier for it. I live in a place that is sunny most days. My roommates are not party people, so my social network is usually hitting the hay earlier.

Accountability

Someone is waiting for me. The more you care about this person's opinion the more effective this step is for getting you to do things.

The result? I am getting up early without thinking about it. I don't sleep through my alarm. I wake up before it goes off. Of course there are days where I sleep in and take a break, but overall I am getting up earlier and happier that I have a full day to my disposal.

Have you heard about the marshmallow study which tests a child's ability to delay gratification? Children in a study say no to a marshmallow now for two marshmallows later. In the TED talk above, Sabine Doebel mentions a variation on the marshmallow study and what her findings have shown her team. She states "make your goals matter more to you." She pushes the importance of context in helping us achieve our dreams. You can utilize this strategy to design a life you love.

Challenge #3

Repetition. Identify main drivers that can help direct you. Rinse and repeat.

Be ready to constantly adjust your life to a different 'vision' and to drop drivers that aren't effective.

I am a social person. I am influenced heavily by other people, so I would argue that people are one of the key drivers for me. This means I have to be very careful about who I let into my life. If someone isn't promoting me to be my best self, then I need to kindly move away from them.

It isn't easy, but dropping old influences is huge in becoming your ideal self.

Self love. Self knowledge. Repetition. Try these out. Were they effective?
